CHIZARIRA NATIONAL PARK ZIMBABWE
April – December 2018
Simon was invited by National Parks Rescue to base in Chizarira for the year to train the rangers and assist with security in general. This was the start of NPR’s project to take over the management and running of the park and begin the restoration to what was once the jewel in the crown of Zimbabwe’s parks. The once dense population of black rhino had long since been wiped out and the elephant population was in danger of going the same way.
This was an interesting period for Big5Rescue and it was where Simon and Paul conceived and trialled the first Long Range Patrol concept. Thomas and Christopher also accompanied Simon to advise and assist on matters of law enforcement and intelligence development.
Chizarira is now thriving under NPR’s management and much of the wildlife returning to sustainable levels. B5P hope to return sometime soon to contribute to the next chapters of this amazing park.
